Questions before you decide

Do you really need a new ERP?

Frustration with your current ERP is not enough to justify replacing it. Separate system limitations from problems with processes, configuration and adoption first.

Where the problem starts

Replacement can be justified when essential requirements cannot be met or continued operation carries unacceptable risk. A new ERP will not, by itself, clarify responsibilities, clean master data or make users available for testing. The same problems can move into a more expensive environment.

What to check first

  1. Describe the specific processes the current ERP cannot support.
  2. Review configuration, existing modules and integration options.
  3. Check whether replacing the ERP is necessary.
    • Can your current ERP meet the missing needs through different settings or additional features?
    • Would moving to a newer version of the same ERP be enough?
    • What would a different system offer, and would that benefit justify the cost and changes to everyday work?
  4. Estimate the full cost of the change.
    • The software and its implementation.
    • Transferring data from the old system.
    • Employee training and staff time during implementation.
    • Temporarily working in both the old and new systems, if needed.
    • Licences, maintenance and user support after go-live.
